A Guide to FiberCell Papers for Different Crop Segments
Published: 24/09 2025
FiberCell offers a variety of papers designed for different agricultural segments, with options tailored to specific propagation needs. The papers are divided into three main families: Prime, Biobased, and Eco.
Prime Paper Family
The Prime family includes papers for crops with both shorter and longer propagation times. These papers are made from cellulose sourced from responsibly managed forests. A key benefit is that they facilitate good lateral root development and effective air pruning.
Prime Medium: This paper is suitable for a propagation time of 4-12 months. Below are some examples of segments that are suitable to grow in Prime Medium:
- Forestry: It is used for trees like Pine and Eucalyptus and is well-suited for tropical and subtropical conditions. It is also suitable for Acacia and Teak.
- Ornamentals: It can be used for ornamental trees and shrubs.
Prime Fast: Designed for crops with a shorter propagation time of 1-4 months, this paper is durable and has an optimized decomposition time. It is ideal for growing leafy greens, aromatic herbs, and lettuce.
Biobased Paper Family
The Biobased family of papers is made from a combination of different biobased fibers, creating an environmentally friendly product with a degradation time tailored to the customer’s needs. These papers are manufactured from natural starch-based fibers and do not contain any fossil-derived or synthetic plastics. They are biodegradable. A notable feature is that the Biobased Medium paper contains no glue, using self-sealing fibers instead, and their perforations allow for effective air pruning.
Biobased Medium: This paper is well-suited for a variety of crops, with a propagation time of approximately 14 months. The following segments are well suited to grow in biobased medium paper:
- Grapevines: It provides excellent structure and moisture retention, promoting strong root development.
- Forestry and Indigenous trees: The FiberCell biobased medium paper provides a paper plug with excellent structure and moisture retention.
- Flowers: This paper is well-suited flower propagation by supporting strong root development and uniform growth.
- Berries: A selection of berries that can be cultivated in biobased medium is strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, and blackberries.
- Fruit & Citrus Trees: It is an ideal choice for nurseries and growers focused on high-quality production of these crops.
Biobased Fast: This versatile paper is made from biobased material (starch-based) and contains cellulose. It is biodegradable and has a propagation time of approximately 1-2 months. The paper is designed for roots to easily penetrate for effective air pruning. This paper is used for herbs, lettuce, leafy greens, and micro greens.
Eco Paper Family
FiberCell Eco Paper is made from 100% cellulose fiber with no plastic content, making it an eco-friendly option. It has been proven effective for crops with a shorter rotation time like leafy greens, herbs and lettuce.
